From 1 May 2011, all new homes, home renovations, additions, alterations and relocations in Australia will need to comply with the 6 Star Standard.

There are two methods in which your project can be assessed. The first is via the Deemed to Satisfy (Elemental) method and the second is using a HER (House Energy Rating Software) assessment. At Domain Energy we can assist with both methodologies.

Deemed to Satisfy (Elemental) Assessment: The BCA/NCC is referenced to ensure that minimum building fabric and energy efficiency requirements are met. This is a prescriptive method in which the following construction elements are assessed; External Walls, Roof construction, Floor construction, External Glazing, Artificial Lighting and Sealing.

HER Software Assessment: If your dwelling has not been previously assessed with a HER, two assessments are required, one Pre Extension and one Post Extension. From the supplied plans a formula is used to calculate the required Post Extension rating. The purpose of this is to prove that the thermal performance improvement meets the 6 star standard. This is achieved via flexible construction requirements. If your dwelling has been previously assessed, it is to ensure that your dwellings thermal performance is not reduced.

The extent to which your home and the planned project are required to meet the above statement can be determined via the below chart.
